There are numerous types of investments that individuals, companies and superannuation funds can invest their money. The most common investment types are cash, fixed interest, mortgage funds, shares and property. Within each investment type there are usually different options such as with property you can invest in direct property, listed property trusts, unlisted property trusts and these investments can cover residential, commercial, retail and offices. The main issue with investing is that you are prepared to take the appropriate risk to achieve the return you are looking for and unfortunately many investors chase the higher returns without taking into account the risks and sometimes lose their capital as a result.
